FEATURES

Thanks to our customers

We look forward to working with you in 2008!

The year has passed quickly. The entire database group has been swept up in releasing Pervasive PSQL Summit™ v10 and that’s a good thing – the hard work has paid off with a superb product.

Many of you have discovered this. We’ve been very pleased at the positive comments we’ve heard from partners and customers. In fact, I was just looking at our customer activity metrics, and the number of people downloading the Pervasive PSQL Summit v10 trial continues to grow as the year comes to an end.

Word of mouth appears to be spreading.

Pervasive PSQL development and quality engineers worked long hours readying Pervasive PSQL Summit v10. The emergence of 64-bit computing and the Microsoft Vista™ operating system, along with the expected release of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 early next year, demanded that we develop a next-generation database to help our customers and partners meet changing needs. PSQL v10 meets those needs, as well as provides Xtreme I/O for enhanced performance.

For those of you who joined us on the “Afternoon at the Museum” tour, we thank each of you again – it was great to hear input on your existing and future needs. Our thanks also extend to our partners and customers who could not attend. We hope to meet and talk with you, too, in the near future.

On behalf of the entire Pervasive team, I hope each of you has had a productive, profitable year. And we wish you a very prosperous 2008.

Sincerely,

Gilbert Van Cutsem,
General Manager, Database Products

An afternoon at the museum:Where history meets technology = Success

With the much anticipated release of Pervasive PSQL Summit v10, we took our latest database software on the road! We started in San Francisco, and made our way through Houston, Miami, New York and Chicago. Then we headed to Europe to visit customers in Frankfurt, London and Paris. It was well worth it!

All the events were well-attended and each stop on the tour was a big success. With more than 150 people attending the events worldwide, we got a lot of value from spending time with our partners and customers. This was the perfect opportunity for our partners to see the very latest in database software, attend an exclusive behind-the-scenes private tour of a world-class Museum and enjoy an evening of fun with the database experts! The feedback we received at each event was favorable and we appreciate all the comments we heard.

If you did not have an opportunity to visit us at one of the cities mentioned above, please visit our Web site to learn all about our latest release, Pervasive PSQL Summit v10, and the benefits it can bring to your organization. Then download a trial version today!

Hurwitz & Associates white paper discusses the embedded
database choice

Hurwitz & Associates assessed the need for an embedded database for small and medium-sized business and found Pervasive PSQL to be a great option. In particular, the report points to Pervasive PSQL’s use by OEMs and ISVs to obtain a cost-effective, low-maintenance, scalable embedded database. Hurwitz explores Belgian accounting and invoicing software company C-Logic’s use of PSQL and offers insights into its transition from Btrieve to PSQL.

TECH TIP

Pervasive PSQL Summit v10 and 16-bit applications

Pervasive PSQL Summit v10 is the culmination of over 2 years of research, customer feedback and development by Pervasive Software. Pervasive PSQL v10 is design to offer compatability for users to run applications based on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 out-of-the box, running on Intel and AMD 32-bit or 64-bit architectures.

Pervasive has a history of maintaining support for different applications, versions and platforms over our 25 year history; Pervasive PSQL v10 is no different. As technology continues to change and move forward we strive to provide the best for our partners and customers. For Pervasive PSQL v10, we have added 64-bit to our offering, this allows users to extend and maximize the latest technology available today. As part of this adoption we have deprecated support for 16-bit GUI applications(1) and interfaces. This also applies to 64-bit operating systems they no longer include a 16-bit subsystem, required for 16-bit applications(2) to run . However DOS applications will continue run with Pervasive PSQL v10 on 32-bit versions of Windows Vista, XP, 2000, 2003 and the upcoming Windows Server 2008.

DOS applications are supported by Pervasive PSQL v10 (32-bit versions) via Btrbox, a mechanism that converts the DOS application calls to work with 32-bit Pervasive PSQL components. This occurs automatically, without developer or end user intervention.
