Pervasive PSQL v9 Service Pack 3 is now available

The latest Service Pack for Pervasive PSQL v9 is now available for download.  Pervasive PSQL v9.70 Service Pack 3 (v9 SP3) provides additional fixes and solves known issues reported since the release of PSQL v9.50 (v9 SP2) in November 2007. PSQL v9 SP3 also includes all fixes released in all v9.52 updates (v9 SP2 updates).

Pervasive PSQL v9 Service Pack 3 includes updates to the clients (Windows and Linux), Workgroup Engine (Windows) and Server Engine (Windows, NetWare and Linux). This release supports the use of clients from Pervasive PSQL v9 SP1 and Pervasive PSQL v9 SP2 against a new Pervasive PSQL v9 Service Pack 3 Server.  Pervasive recommends that you update both your server and clients to Pervasive PSQL v9 Service Pack 3.

Note: Applying PSQL v9 SP3 for Windows requires an existing installation of Pervasive PSQL v9.5 (SP2).

Pervasive PSQL v9 begins transition support January 1, 2009

End of general availability beginning July 1, 2009

Pervasive PSQL v9 was released in March of 2005 and has had a terrific run, but now has been mostly replaced in the market by PSQL v10.  The only change in status with the move to Transition Support is that there are no longer complimentary support tickets provided with each product.  This is part of a longer term plan to stop shipping Pervasive PSQL v9 six months after beginning Transition Support – Pervasive PSQL v9 will no longer be generally available beginning July 1, 2009.  The end of general availability means:

1) Pervasive PSQL v9 will not be available for sale or on our published price lists,

2) Phone and electronic support are chargeable for any issue related with
    Pervasive PSQL v9.

Important Note to Pervasive PSQL NetWare Customers:  Because Pervasive PSQL v9 is the last platform on which PSQL supports NetWare, Pervasive will continue to ship and support Pervasive PSQL v9 on NetWare as a generally available product for the foreseeable future.

THE LATEST WORD

Windows 7: Looks and feels like Windows Vista

The Latest Word News that Microsoft Windows 7 is coming should not be a concern to Pervasive customers who have moved—or plan to move—to Pervasive PSQL v10. Gilbert’s  early assessment is that Windows 7 looks and feels a whole lot like Windows Vista, and he believes that bodes well for our customers because
Pervasive PSQL v10 has proven that it runs very well with Windows Vista.

CUSTOMER SURVEY RESULTS

October survey results:
Economic uncertainty leads to cautious consensus

Thanks to the respondents of the October survey.

We asked readers to tell us if their spending plans have changed as a result of the latest economic news and to give us some idea of what your customers are going to do for the next 18 months. When asked their forecast for SMB IT spending through 2009, 33% of respondents see small growth, 33% believe spending activity will be static, and another 33% acknowledged that they believe we’re in a recession. (It’s official now—according to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the U.S. economy is in a recession.)

Over the next three months, respondents’ spending will be significantly less at 67% of responses and another 33% foresee no change. Asked whether an economic slowdown would hurt their businesses, respondents overwhelmingly said this would be the case: all participants believe the effect would be major, with most customers holding off purchases until an economic recovery is underway.
