New version of Active Connector for ACUCOBOL-GT

Pervasive Engineering has just released Active Connector ACUCOBOL-GT 3.0 for Pervasive PSQL v10.10. If you’re maintaining a COBOL application, this is the tool for you. Pervasive PSQL Active Connector for ACUCOBOL is a runtime interface to the Pervasive ase engine. Active Connector allows an ACUCOBOL application to use the ACUCOBOL runtime environment as a front-end with a Pervasive PSQL database as a back-end.

An ACUCOBOL application reads from and writes to Pervasive PSQL database files as if it were working with ISAM files. With Active Connector developers can use SQL to interact with their ACUCOBOL-GT data from any available Pervasive PSQL relational access mechanism including ODBC, OLEDB, ADO, ADO.Net, JDBC, and others. Active Connector ACUCOBOL-GT 3.0 works with PSQL v10.10 and ACUCOBOL-GT (extend 8).

TECH TIP

Deactivate the license key BEFORE uninstalling Pervasive PSQL Server

This tip applies ONLY to downloads from the Pervasive E-store. If you’re getting software from a Pervasive partner – you can ignore this tip.

Those of you who have downloaded Pervasive PSQL Summit v10 from the Pervasive E-Store may have noticed a change in the way license keys are applied to activate the PSQL software.  Instead of the key being applied midway through the installation process, Pervasive PSQL installs completely and then requires a key for activation.  The license is activated after the correct key is typed or pasted into the Pervasive Software License Administrator utility.

So far, no problem. However, if you’re going to move your Pervasive PSQL installation to another machine (from a test to production server for example), it’s important to remember to deactivate the key before you uninstall the software. This is because a specific license key can only be active on one machine at a time. So, just pasting the same key on another machine won’t activate the software. And, once you’ve uninstalled the software you no longer have access to the License Administrator.

Follow these steps whenever you move your Pervasive PSQL installation and you won’t have any problems:

1)     Deactivate the license key

2)     Uninstall PSQL

3)     Install PSQL on the new server

4)     Reapply the original key – click Activate
